Biography

Amy Shapiro-Rosenbaum, PhD, ABPP, FACRM is a clinical psychologist and board-certified clinical neuropsychologist with over 20 years of experience in brain injury rehabilitation. She is Director of the Inpatient Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program at Park Terrace Care Center, a Research Investigator with the New York Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model System, and holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Recognizing gaps in specialized outpatient services, she also co-founded BrainMatters Neuropsychological Services to expand access to high-quality, community-based care for individuals affected by brain injury.

Dr. Shapiro-Rosenbaum’s clinical and research interests include disorders of consciousness, confusional states, cognitive rehabilitation, evidence-based practice, and psychotherapy following brain injury. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, textbook chapters, and online resources. Her work includes contributions to the development of evidence-based cognitive rehabilitation practice guidelines for TBI and stroke, as well as minimal competency recommendations for program providing care for individuals with disorders of consciousness. Her work has been presented through professional trainings and conferences nationally and internationally.

She has received multiple awards for her contributions to the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM). Dr. Shapiro-Rosenbaum is a founding co-author of the ACRM Cognitive Rehabilitation Manual, Managing Co-Editor of the second edition, and Co-Chair of the Cognitive Rehabilitation Training Faculty Steering Committee. This landmark knowledge translation effort has helped provide structured, evidence-informed training to hundreds of clinicians worldwide, directly advancing quality and standards of care in cognitive rehabilitation. She is also Co-Chair of ACRM’s Cognitive Rehabilitation Special Interest Group and Chair of the Education and Knowledge Translation Committee of the Disorders of Consciousness Task Force. In these roles, she leads education initiatives in collaboration with organizations including ACRM, the TBI Model Systems, BrainLine (WETA Public Television), and the International Brain Injury Association.
